Impact CMU 2026 is an annual showcase of student-led social impact projects. Organized by Design for America, the goal of Impact CMU is to celebrate our successes and to create a culture of social good on campus. Student organizations and research, personal, and hackathon projects are all welcome to contribute their work. We will award three winning projects with $250!
You will be showcasing your work through a poster and optional demos. Attendees will view different teams, talk to you about your work, and vote to win prizes! Faculty judges will also take part in viewing work and discussing your creations. This is a great opportunity to talk to your peers, get feedback from your professors, and for student organizations to promote to a large audience. Here is the link to our website with more information and examples of past projects (best viewed on laptop/desktop).
If you’re interested in participating, please join this Slack channel! We will hold an information session on 3/15 (2-3 pm) and a makeup information session on 3/22 (12-1 pm). If you are ready to register your project, please fill out this registration form by March 20th (11:59 pm)!

Moon Miners is CMU's official team competing in NASA's Lunabotics 2026 competition. We're currently recruiting students across multiple subteams, including Web Development (under Outreach), Software, and other technical and non-technical roles. I was wondering if you might be willing to help us share our recruitment information with students in the IS community who may be interested.
Outreach members focus on software and web development, professional communication, recruiting infrastructure, and sponsor-facing documentation. The team builds and maintains external-facing systems such as the team website and contributes to the STEM Industry Plan, a major NASA deliverable that impacts the overall competition score. No prior robotics experience is required, and the role is well suited for students interested in web development, software tooling, or technical communication.
For reference, the student application form can be found here

For those who may be interested, students can participate in up to 12 units of university-funded opportunities between 99-520, SURA (99-270), 99-409, and 99-412. Those 12 units could be split amongst multiple opportunities (3 and 9 for SURA/99-520 option as an example). All 99-520 sections are 9 units. Students who are doing SURF are not eligible to participate in the listed university funded opportunities.
New this summer: students will enroll themselves in 99-520 courses via SIO. The detailed description of each course can be found on this website. Please know that Chris Labash’s offering, “Consulting for Public Good,” is an in-person expectation; the listing is currently incorrect in the registrar’s system as remote.
