STEM Career Fair Interview Opportunities
Employers will identify and invite candidates based on resumes and conversations at the STEM Career Fair. I have linked their employer Handshake page as well as their public webpage for your reference.
Resources
If you've made it this far - thank you! As we head into STEM Career Fair week, I wanted to share a few resources that may be helpful as you work with students:
STEM Career Fair Employer Hiring Information:
Our team sends a survey to all employers registered for the STEM Career Fair to give students more insight into their hiring needs and capabilities, including sponsorship availability, types of roles, business units attending, and more. While some of this information is also available in Handshake, the survey responses come directly from the employer representatives attending the fair and have been submitted within the last week.
The view-only spreadsheet includes all responses received through last Friday, and I’ll continue updating it as additional responses come in. You’re welcome to share this resource directly with students. Students must be signed into their CMU account to view it.
Video Quick Guide: Finding Employer Interview Opportunities
I created a short video (2 minutes, 15 seconds) walking through a student Handshake account on how to find the full list of employers interviewing on campus and how to determine whether an employer requires students to pre-apply for an interview opportunity.
STEM Fair Fluorescent Hiring Indicators
At the STEM Career Fair, each employer receives a set of six fluorescent labels to place on their booth nameplate. Each label indicates a different aspect of the employer’s hiring needs, including things like full-time positions, internships, undergraduate opportunities, and visa sponsorship/hiring capabilities.
I’ve attached an image of the six labels below so you can familiarize yourself and your students with them. Feel free to let students know about these indicators and encourage them to look for the fluorescent signs at employer booths when navigating the fair!
